When the skin is stressed by external factors like UV rays, heat or cold, the water balance of skill cells is disrupted. Osmolytes are naturally occurring molecules that help manage water balance and protect the skin from dehydration due to environmental stress.
Nature’s Answer to Moisturization and Protection
We have developed a proprietary process to extract two major osmolytes, betaine (GENENCARE® OSMS BA) and inositol (GENENCARE® OSMS MI), from sugar beets to provide moisturization, protection, energizing and sensory benefits for skin and haircare products.

Upcycled ingredients are a powerful tool for achieving waste reduction and telling an important sustainability story at the same time. IFF is one of the first ingredients suppliers to be certified by the Where Food Comes From Upcycled Certified™ program in the cosmetic active category. GENENCARE® OSMS BA natural betaine and LMR Rose Ultimate are examples of Upcycled Certified™ ingredients.
Unlike the process for fossil fuel-based synthetic polymers, the DEB process allows us to access unique, structurally diverse polysaccharides — like those found in nature — at scale and under mild process conditions. This provides an unprecedented design space for enhanced performance. Using only plant-based sugars, water and our favorite biocatalyst — the enzyme — we can now design functional, biobased, biodegradable materials without compromising performance.
AURIST™ AGC is the first personal care ingredient enabled by the DEB platform. It’s a readily biodegradable, cationic polymer that can benefit hair and skin care applications by helping to improve combability, detangling, hair gloss and skin smoothness while also improving product rinsability in body wash formulations. Since its launch, AURIST™ AGC has received multiple industry awards, including the 2024 BSB Most Innovative Raw Material Gold Award (Functional/Recipient category) and the 2023 In-cosmetics Global Innovation Zone Gold Award for Functional Ingredient.
